About Tailgate Savers (Shocks/Struts)
Factory tailgates on these trucks open in one motion — no resistance, no control — which stresses the hinges and cables over time and makes for an abrupt, heavy drop. The Gate Saver is LS Fabrication’s tailgate assist strut, built to slow that opening action so the tailgate lowers smoothly and stays under control after it’s unlatched. The Gate Saver is available in fitments across nearly every GM truck era we carry: 1967-72 C10, 1973-87 and 1981-87 Squarebody, 1988-98 OBS, 1982-93 and 1994-2004 S10, and 1999-2006 NBS trucks. Each kit works with factory tailgate cables, and most also work with factory straps (though one strap typically needs to be removed). Installation is straightforward and doesn’t require welding.
