About OBS Chevy & GMC Truck Parts, 1988-98

OBS Chevy and GMC trucks are the 1988-1998 pickups built on GM’s GMT400 platform. OBS is short for Old Body Style, a name that stuck once the GMT800 trucks arrived. They are now one of the most heavily modified platforms on the road, and this catalog leans into that: billet hardware machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and the hidden upgrades this generation is known for.

Billet hardware we machine ourselves

  • Billet hood hinges, door strikers and pillar emblems
  • Door jamb vents
  • Billet gauge inlays for the cluster
  • Radiator brackets for the engine bay

The hidden upgrades

Our hidden taillight fuel filler kit routes the fuel filler behind the taillight, so the bedside loses its fuel door entirely. It needs the housing welded into the taillight pocket, so plan it into the bodywork rather than a weekend. The Gate Saver strut stops the tailgate dropping with a bang, works with factory cables, and installs without welding.

Lighting and bolt-ons

LED headlight upgrades are one of the biggest single improvements on an OBS truck — the factory sealed beams are dim by any modern standard. We carry those alongside the rest of United Pacific’s LED lighting for the GMT400, plus hood strut kits and CVF billet hood hinges in the 88-98 fitment.

If this is not your era

OBS replaced the 1973-87 Squarebody. It gave way to the 1999-2006 NBS trucks on the GMT800 platform. If you are on the compact side of the lineup instead, see S10 truck parts.

1988-91 Suburbans, Blazers and crew cabs still used the square body. Our Chevy truck VIN decoder tells you which one you have.

OBS Chevy questions

What years are OBS Chevy trucks?

OBS covers the GMT400 Chevy and GMC pickups built for 1988 to 1998. The Tahoe, Yukon and Suburban on the same platform ran from 1992 to 1999, and some heavy-duty and crew cab pickups stayed in production a little longer. Not sure what you have? Decode the VIN.

What does OBS stand for?

Old Body Style. The name caught on after the 1999 GMT800 Silverado and Sierra arrived and needed telling apart. Our OBS truck guide covers the models, cabs and engines year by year.

Do 1988-94 and 1995-98 OBS parts interchange?

Outside the cab, mostly yes: doors, hood, bed and tailgate carry over. Inside, no. The 1995 refresh brought a new dash with a driver airbag, so dash inserts, gauge parts and some interior trim are listed for one range or the other. Each product page names the years it fits.

Do these parts fit a Tahoe, Yukon or Suburban?

The SUVs share the pickup's front clip, doors and dash, so hood hinges, hood struts, door strikers, vents and most interior parts fit both. Bed, tailgate and fuel filler parts are pickup-only. The fitment tab on each part lists the bodies it suits.

Do GMC OBS parts fit a Chevy?

Yes, apart from the grille, badges and some trim. A GMC Sierra and a Chevy C/K of the same year share the cab, bed and hardware, which is why nearly everything here is listed for both.

What about 1999 and newer trucks?

The 1999-2006 GMT800 trucks are the NBS (New Body Style) and take different parts. They have their own section: 1999-06 NBS truck parts.
