Description
The stock tailgate release on a 1973–1980 Chevy or GMC wears out and binds, and you end up shoving the handle sideways to get the gate to drop. This CNC machined billet release replaces it and runs sealed ball bearings at every pivot point, so the linkage moves clean.
Features
- CNC machined billet tailgate release.
- Sealed ball bearings at all pivot points.
- Eliminates the binding common in the stock handle.
- Stainless mounting hardware included.
- Color instructions for installation and use included.
Choose your option
- Design: pocketed handle or smooth handle.

Common questions
How do I know it fits my truck?
This part is listed for 1973–1980 Chevy and GMC C10, C20, C30, Sierra and Silverado. The full year, make and model list is in the Truck Compatibility tab on this page. If your truck has been modified, or you are between two of the year ranges we list, send us the year, make and model and we will confirm the fit before you order rather than after.
What if it is not right for the truck?
You have 30 days from delivery to return it by mail. Return shipping is on you, and the part needs to come back uninstalled and unmodified - once a panel has been trimmed or welded it cannot go back. Made-to-order items are final sale. The full terms are on our returns page.
Can I install this myself?
It is designed for a home install with ordinary hand tools, and the fitment notes on this page list anything that needs drilling, trimming or welding. Where an installation guide or video exists for the part it is linked in the Installation tab.
