Description
Our transmission tunnel is formed and assembled to bolt into the original transmission cover location on a 1947–1954 Chevy or GMC truck. It is an easy way to give the middle of the cab a custom look.
Features
- Laser cut from 18 gauge steel.
- Formed and assembled to bolt directly into the original transmission cover location.
- Two pieces, supplied bolted together with rivet nuts and stainless steel machine screws.
- Made to be installed by the do-it-yourselfer.
Tunnel height and width
- Very front: 3.0" high, 13.5" wide
- Front bolt holes: 2.5" high, 12" wide
- Middle bolt holes: 1.5" high, 7.25" wide
- Rear bolt holes: 0.5" high, 2.25" wide
Fitment notes
See the third photo in the gallery for the dimensions of the cover and verify it will work for your application. Cutting the factory toe boards is required, and the upper section will need to be welded to the toe boards.
If you are working on the cab or engine bay of a 3100 Advance Design truck, our behind the seat panels pair well with the tunnel.
Not included
- Paint or coating - the tunnel ships in bare 18 gauge steel, supplied in two pieces bolted together with rivet nuts and stainless machine screws.
- Replacement toe boards. Cutting the factory toe boards is required and the upper section of the tunnel welds to them, so a welder is needed.

Installation
The tunnel arrives as two pieces already bolted together with rivet nuts and stainless steel machine screws, and it bolts into the original transmission cover location.
It is not a no-cut job. Cutting the factory toe boards is required, and the upper section will need to be welded to the toe boards. Check the dimensions against your truck before you start.

Transmission Tunnel - 47-54 GMC Chevy Truck
Common questions
Does the panel arrive finished, or does it need work?
It ships bare, ready for you to fit and then prep and paint, coat or cover however suits the build.
Can I bolt it in instead of welding?
It depends on the panel. Several go in more than one way - laid over the existing panel, butt welded, screwed, riveted or bonded - and the Features list and installation notes on this page say what this one is set up for.
How much fitting should I expect?
Test fit before anything is welded or drilled. Fifty years of body work, previous repairs and factory tolerance mean no two cabs or beds are identical, so expect some final fitting to your own truck.
Is it a no-cut install?
No. The tunnel bolts into the original transmission cover location, but the factory toe boards have to be cut and the upper section welded to them. Check the dimensions on this page against your truck first.
How do I know it fits my truck?
This part is listed for 1947–1954 Chevy and GMC 3100, 3800 and Suburban. The full year, make and model list is in the Truck Compatibility tab on this page. If your truck has been modified, or you are between two of the year ranges we list, send us the year, make and model and we will confirm the fit before you order rather than after.
How long before it ships?
It is a stock item and generally ships within 1-3 business days. Carrier transit time is on top of that, and larger orders can arrive in more than one box on different days.

Great service extremely happy and fast service thank you .
Had to cut the front off of the tunnel section because the angle doesn’t match from the floor to the toe board, I have and original uncut 48 3100 cab. So much for a bolt in, going to have to fab it anyway.
Quality sheet metal construction, have not installed yet, very prompt shipping and delivery
Build good and strong
