Description

The Altman Easy Latch kit swaps the door latches in a 1947–1951 Chevrolet or GMC pickup for bear jaw rotary claw latches. It is a vehicle-specific, bolt-on kit — the jamb plates are contoured to match the features of your doors rather than shaped to fit everything.

Features

  • Each latch is designed to work with the stock exterior handles, interior handles and exterior door lock cylinders.
  • Every piece of the bear jaw latches is zinc plated to fight corrosion.
  • Internal claws are case hardened and black oxide coated.
  • One kit comes with everything you need for two doors.
  • Designed, manufactured and assembled in the USA.

Choose your option

  • Stock exterior handles
  • Shaved handle application

Fitment notes

You can lock the doors from the outside using your stock lock cylinders. You cannot lock an Altman Easy Latch from the inside by pushing the handle forward.

Common questions

Which panel length do I need?

It depends on the handles you are keeping. If you are running the stock outside handles, choose the long panel option - the extra length is what reaches the factory handle linkage. If you are going to billet or hidden handles, the short panel is the one.

Will the doors still open from the outside?

Yes, provided you match the panel option to the handles you are running. Say which handles you have when you order if you are unsure and we will confirm the option before it ships.

How do I know it fits my truck?

This part is listed for 1947–1951 Chevy and GMC 3100, 3600, 3800 and Suburban. The full year, make and model list is in the Truck Compatibility tab on this page. If your truck has been modified, or you are between two of the year ranges we list, send us the year, make and model and we will confirm the fit before you order rather than after.

How long before it ships?

It is a stock item and leaves our warehouse in 1-3 business days. Transit after that is typically 2-5 business days in the United States. Larger orders can arrive in more than one box on different days.

What if it is not right for the truck?

You have 30 days from delivery to return it by mail. Return shipping is on you, and the part needs to come back uninstalled and unmodified - once a panel has been trimmed or welded it cannot go back. Made-to-order items are final sale. The full terms are on our returns page.

Can I install this myself?

It is designed for a home install with ordinary hand tools, and the fitment notes on this page list anything that needs drilling, trimming or welding. Where an installation guide or video exists for the part it is linked in the Installation tab.
