Description
The pogo stick prop rod on a 1982–1993 Chevy or GMC S10, Blazer or Jimmy is a nuisance, and it doesn't hold the hood very high. This kit replaces it with gas struts — smoother to open, better damped on the way down, and several inches more clearance under the hood.
Features
- Laser-cut, precision-formed firewall and hood mounting brackets.
- Heavy-duty sealed bearing gas struts.
- Billet hood strut brackets bolt straight up with the supplied stainless steel hardware.
- Fender brackets screw into the factory inner fenders, hardware supplied.
- Opens the hood several inches higher than the stock pogo stick.
- Made in the USA, with a 3 year warranty.

Common questions
What comes in the hood strut kit?
Two firewall mounting brackets, two hood mounting brackets, two heavy duty sealed bearing gas struts, four 5/16" ball studs and all the mounting hardware, including the low profile hood mount bolts. Finish options are listed at the top of the page.
Will it work with a fibreglass or aftermarket hood?
The kit is designed around the factory steel hood and has not been tested on aftermarket or fibreglass hoods. On a lighter or heavier hood the strut rate can be too much or not enough, so treat it as untested rather than confirmed.
Will my hood still line up afterwards?
Plan on realigning it. If the truck currently runs no hood springs or struts at all, the back of the hood near the cowl will very likely pop up once the strut force is added, and the hinges and latch will need adjusting. It happens on trucks with factory springs too, just less often.
Does the hood open as high as it did on the prop rod?
Not always. The strut sets the open height, and on some trucks that height sits below where a prop rod held it. That is the kit working as designed, not an install error.
How do I know it fits my truck?
This part is listed for 1982–1993 Chevy and GMC S10 Blazer, S15, S15 Jimmy, S10 and Sonoma. The full year, make and model list is in the Truck Compatibility tab on this page. If your truck has been modified, or you are between two of the year ranges we list, send us the year, make and model and we will confirm the fit before you order rather than after.
How long before it ships?
It is a stock item and leaves our warehouse in 1-3 business days. Transit after that is typically 2-5 business days in the United States. Larger orders can arrive in more than one box on different days.
